[ROTWK] This is a small map for four players which compete against each other to claim the title of 'King of the Hill'. Lag is relatively unnoticeable except for poor connections and gameplay easy to understand. This is my second King of the Hill map (my first was a 4v4). I made this one to adapt King of the Hill to 4 stand-alone players as well as to improve upon the fairness of gameplay (the 4v4 King of the Hill map is pretty much whoever takes the hill owns it for the rest of the game). This map succeeds in making the advantage of the hill comprimised by the disadvantage of defending against three enemies as well as encouraging the shifting of power and therefore balance with random events which make the hill a death trap from time-to-time. Gameplay When one player has troops on the hill, owns the flag, and all enemies are outside the hill, that player is dominating the hill. While he is dominating, his counter decreases (with a small fine for each point to further discourage power imbalance). When a player's counter reaches 0, that player wins the game and is rightfully 'King of the Hill'. As mentioned, there are random events which attack the hill such as meteor strike and sunflare which will occur when the winning player reaches certain numbers on their counter. The number the counters start with depends on the starting resources set by the host. Builders are not allowed on the hill (they will die if they try) and no units are allowed to enter an enemy base (they will also die if they try). Each player has a small base with room for one efficient resource structure and several other inefficient ones for command points and the increased resource production (after a little while). Players are also given extra resources through scripting. This is enough to produce decent-sized armies and upgrades but it remains important to protect your armies rather than let them go on suicide missions. Games are fairly short depending on the aggressiveness, cunning and individual circumstances of each player, as well as the starting resources. I find that this map is very engaging and exciting with four players but three players or fewer tend to make the game less fun. It is certainly worth waiting for four players to join. Hints concerning strategy When a player is capturing the flag, he is more vulnerable. When an army is on the opposite side of the hill, archers have to run up to the top of the hill in order to attack them. When the 'god' of the map attacks with a spellbook power, the hill becomes easy to snatch. Large armies tend to attract attention. The winning player should face the most resistance in terms of aggressive behaviour of other players, though this depends on the other players being aware of the state of the counters. The best position to be in is shortly behind the winning player. When one player overthrows another player and claims the hill, he is usually weak. Weak armies stationed on the hill will withdraw if an intimidating army is heading their way, depending on the player and how close to winning either of them are. Players which are not doing so well tend to be given a little slack because other players need to build up their army. Why go for the weakest player when he has ages to go before he wins? Why not build up your army and use it against the more powerful enemies when they try to take the hill? As the counters decrease and the game continues the alliances and friendliness between certain weaker players (as above) will dissolve and the true nature of the FFA will be brought forward more. The tension and importance of taking the hill increases exponentially as the lowest counter decreases towards 0. Downloading the map Download the attachment and extract the contents.
