One of my biggest hang-ups with playing BfMe II/RotWk widescreen was the ugly stretching of the UI — and now that the APT files can be directly modified, I decided to do something about it. NOTE: • This is only for the UI — you still need to run the game in widescreen mode and (preferably) use widescreen maps. • I am only working on the RTS battle window, so everything else — main menu, battle setup screens, Create-a-Hero screens, War of the Ring strategic (Living World) window, etc. — is unchanged. Notable features: • Should be compatible with everything (saved games, network play, etc.) — run the BIG file as a mod or even drop it into the game directory. • Hero selection panel modified to utilize widescreen — now, twelve heroes and Builders (or thirteen heroes) are on the bottom row • The pop-up info box has been moved to the middle of the screen (from off-right). • Includes Deezire’s fixed InGameSpellBook.apt. Known issues: • Radial menus (the menus that pop up onscreen when structures are clicked) still look funny. (Ironically, the desire to mess with those menus inspired this project in the first place.) • Resource and command point text does not get compressed when the values are large. • “Building complete” and “under attack” minimap marker triangle/square begin skewed. (I’m not that good at rotational matrices.) • Various windows (Player List/Tribute box, Planning Mode box, Messenger box, Hero arrived/killed/revived notification box, etc.) are still skewed.
