Mae Govannen! I wrote a Tutorial for the German Community on http://modding-union.com and I decided to translate it in English. It describes how to model, UVW-map and skin a numenorian shield. For the Tutorial, you need 3DS Max or RenX and Adobe Photoshop. (A few skills shouldbe available) The tutorial is devided in three Parts, also three pages. On the first page you find the modelling-part. The second page describes how to do an UVW-Map. And the third page shows you different methods of skinning. Let´s begin in our modelling programm creating a box with nearly these parameters: Sure, it´s much too big, but afterwards you can scale it down easy. Next, convert the box to "Editable Poly". Delete in the Polygon Mode the half of it. Then use the mirror-tool (), select "Instance" and the Axe, with which it looks like before. Now we have to round the top of the shield. For this, select the Vertex-Points on the top, inchoate in the middle. You see, the same Vertexes are moving on the cloned Side. Do the same with the other Vertexes, till you have something like a hemicycle. Do the same for the side below, but elide the outmost Vertexes. Well, hard to describe... A picture says more. If you aren´t pleased with the proportions of the shield - Now it´s the time to correct them. Now attach both sides. For doing an UVW-Map, look at the second page. Links / Downloads
