Some advice for making a MERPG.
- Limit how many objects are on your map. For a normal skirmish map it is recommended you don't go over a few hundred objects on your map but with an MERPG you are creating a large and varied world so you can go a bit bigger but don't go overboard. - Limit the terrain. Too many Mountains and Valleys on a large map can cause some serious issues in getting the map to load so keep it under control. - Make use of dungeons and instances. A cool thing to do in a MERPG is the use of dungeons and instances similar to the ones in MMORPGs these are usually areas of the maps separate from the main part that can be reach through certain criteria. -Big ass bosses. Let's face it big bosses are cool, secret bosses are even cooler. Put in a big boss with oodles of health to really test out your player. - Play MMOs and other types of RPGs. Nothing like getting inspiration from other games. I recommend playing some of the ORPG's for Warcraft 3 like Twilight's eve it will help you come with cool ideas for your map. More later.... |
